    Basic information

    Kuusamo Airport is an airport serving the city of Kuusamo and nearby areas. A major ski resort, Ruka, is located about 20km north of the airport. The airport is especially busy during the winter season. Finnair operates daily flight to Helsinki, and other carriers also operate seasonal flights to many European destinations.

    Radio navigation:
    KO – ILS LOC 12 (110.300)

    Runway 30 is only capable of an RNP approach. Runway 12 has ILS with CAT I capability. RNP approach is also available for runway 12. Visual approaches can be executed when allowed by weather and traffic conditions. Runway 12/30 is 2500 meters long and 45 meters wide.

    Kuusamo has no radar and all traffic is controlled procedurally.

     

    Radio operations

    For clearance, contact Kuusamo Tower on 118.650 when TWR is online or to another ATS-station listed above when TWR is offline. With clearance you can expect the SID, the following airway, cleared flight level and squawk code.

    Visual approach can be requested by phraseology: ready for visual or request visual approach.

     

    VFR Operations

    VFR aircraft should inform their intensions for flight when requesting taxi. Start-up clearance is not required for piston engine aircraft. Please file your VFR flight plan via a visual reporting point (VRP):
