Inuugujog Kutaa! (Hello!)

I am very happy to announce that as of 25th July, Greenland has been moved into VATEUR>VATEUD>vACC Scandinavia.

Thanks to everyone who voiced their opinion about this issue to me, either on Euroscope or Teamspeak... we took your thoughts on board and went through the VATSIM appeals process until the end.

I hope you're happy with the result!

Now we need to prove to the EC/BoG that we are capable of keeping Greenland active. If you have received Greenland training as part of the Iceland ATC programme, or you are a Danish controller who loves AFIS, jump on a position in your free time and help us grow the region! As mentioned in the draft announcement below, Greenland will participate in Bridge between Continents 2015, this time as a full member of VATSIM Scandinavia.

Qujanaq! (Thank you!)

P.S. The draft announcement is for the global VATSIM press release, I'm just waiting on the EC to approve it before we post out. But of course VATSIM Scandinavia members have the right to see it first ;)

DO NOT RELEASE -- Draft Announcement -- DO NOT RELEASE
It gives us great pleasure to announce that at the most recent Executive Committee (EC) Meeting, held on 25th July 2015, the Status of Greenland was discussed and the EC unanimously voted FOR Greenland being removed from VATSIM North America and incorporated under VATSIM Europe.

This has been a long-standing issue for VATSIM Scandinavia (under the Europe Division), which has practically administered the region for a considerable length of time. With the official transfer to Scandinavia, we believe the situation has now been clarified and no more confusion will arise over which division has jurisdiction over Greenland. As a result, we hope that Greenland will continue to grow and flourish in its popularity with VATSIM pilots and controllers alike.

For Controllers
Greenlandic airspace falls under Iceland's jurisdiction, lying within the Reykjavik Control Area (CTA). Therefore, controllers interested in providing services here will need to become members of VATSIM Scandinavia and undertake Icelandic ATC training, which also includes lessons on Greenland and the Faroe Islands. For those keen observers, you are free to download the Iceland Controller Pack 2015 that encompasses the entire Reykjavik CTA.

All relevant information can be found at: http://vatsim-scandinavia.org/atc/general-procedures/iceland/

For Pilots
A comprehensive overview of Greenland, which sits in the Reykjavik Control Area, can be found at:

The Sector Map is a good starting point to understand the big picture. It is worth noting that above FL195 in most parts of Greenland is Icelandic airspace and services are provided by either Reykjavik Control (BIRD_CTR) or Iceland Radio (BICC_FSS). Below FL195 is Søndrestrøm Information (BGGL_FSS) which provides services at all Greenlandic airports when local ATC is offline.

To celebrate this announcement, we can confirm that Greenland will feature in the annual 'Bridge between Continents' event to be held in November 2015. Advertising for this event will begin in October.

On behalf of the members of VATSIM Scandinavia, we thank the Executive Committee and VP Regions for their efforts in helping us create the most realistic environment for all VATSIM members to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming the world to Greenland!
